It may be recalled that Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Commerce Syed Naveed Qamar had visited important European countries last month and tried to persuade Europe to support Pakistan’s position on Pakistan’s status in the FATF.German Foreign Minister Analina Beerbok also visited Pakistan recently, while Germany is currently chairing the FATF and the meeting is taking place in Berlin.
In March this year, the Financial Action Task Force considered the Asia-Pacific Group’s report on Pakistan and said that Pakistan had implemented 26 of the 27 points in the 2018 Action Plan. The FATF said that Pakistan has made significant progress in curbing counter-terrorism financing.
Speaking to Urdu News, Lubna Farooq, a key member of the delegation negotiating with FATF and DG Financial Monitoring Unit (FMU) on behalf of Pakistan, said that so far Pakistan’s negotiations are going very well.

Nothing more can be said yet.
It may be recalled that the FATF appreciated Pakistan’s initiatives earlier this year and asked for further work on only the last point and seven related issues.Lubna Farooq said that we have achieved the required progress on all these remaining issues and now we hope for good results.
However, he said that even if it was decided to remove Pakistan from the gray list, there would be some steps. According to the Director General of FMU, first the FATF announces that a country has completed its plan. This is followed by an on-site visit to the country to see all the developments. After this visit, the name of this country is removed from the gray list.
