SINDH GOVT PLANS TO DELAY INTERMEDIATE EXAMS AMID LG ELECTIONS

KARACHI: Sindh education department would today mull over a delay in intermediate exams in the province owing to the first phase of local government elections scheduled on June 16, Pak Revenue reported.

The secretary of school education would head a meeting today to decide on the delay which could further delay the commencement of the academic session.

According to the decisions taken by the education ministry’s steering committee, the intermediate exams were scheduled to begin on June 15, which could now be affected owing to local bodies elections on June 16 in 14 districts of the province.

Meanwhile, the education ministry has opposed any delay in intermediate exams in Karachi and Hyderabad where local government elections will take place in the second phase.

The Election Commission of Pakistan had conveyed Sindh government that the local bodies elections in Karachi and Hyderabad would be held on July 24.

“The first phase of local bodies election will be held on June 26 in Sukkur, Larkana, Shaheed Benazirabad, and Mirpurkhas,” Aijaz Chohan said, adding that elections in second phase will be held in Karachi and Hyderabad on July 24.
