Senate Committee Receives Recommendations to Financially Support Bloggers

According to the Senate Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication, the government needs to financially support the bloggers who could beneficially promote the digital economy of the country.

In a recent meeting with Rubina Khalid, Senator Faisal Javed suggested that bloggers should be given incentives or a bonus for portraying the positive image of Pakistan.

Secretary Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication Mr. Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui informed the committee, “ IT & IT-enabled services (ITes) export have surged to $550.503 million at a growth rate of 24.71 percent during the first six months of the fiscal year 2019-20 (July-December), compared to $441.435 million during the same period of last year.”

The chairperson of the committee raised a question that the digital economy can only be promoted if most of the population has access to the mobile phone. Replying to this question Mr. Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui said, “The State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) will give incentives to international payment gateways to promote information technology sector exports, freelancing and the digital economy.”
