ISLAMABAD: The Federal Tax Ombudsman has decided to hold an inquiry against the Secretary Revenue Division and Chairman FBR for allegedly approving the awarding of rewards to FBR employees in the name of budget duty without any legal mandate.
Federal Tax Ombudsman Dr. Asif Jah has decided to inquire against the Secretary Revenue Division and Chairman FBR for allegedly approving the awarding of rewards (rewards) to 373 FBR employees in the name of budget duty without any legal mandate. The Secretary Revenue Division has sought reply from Islamabad regarding the allegations of mismanagement by July 15, 2022.
Sources said that the notice was taken by the ombudsman on the basis of a complaint lodged by Waheed Shehzad Butt, a taxpayer, against the Chairman FBR and other FBR officials. He termed the daytime robbery of the treasury as a day-to-day robbery and demanded the formation of a high-powered inquiry committee to look into the issue of rewarding taxpayers.
In this regard, when the complainant Waheed Shehzad was contacted, he said that the powers of the FTO to inspect the wings of the FBR are an effective tool to prevent mismanagement and corruption in the tax machinery.
