Minister of Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhary said that next year will begin local assembly of electric buses.
Speaking on an occasion on Wednesday, Fawad Chaudhary said those buses would start domestic manufacturing in three years ‘ time. He vowed to make Islamabad Pakistan the first city to have fully electric transport.
He said the government is focusing on electric vehicles to bring transportation sector revolution. In response to a question, he said high-tech farms will be developed to promote unconventional crop production, adding that the firm has already approved industrial and medical use of hemp.
He informed that the sales have been identified in Peshawar, Jhelum, and Chakwal for the cultivation of hemp.
Fawad Chaudhry announced last month that battery-powered electric buses will run from this year in Pakistan. He had said this after the signing ceremony of a strategic alliance agreement between Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service Limited and Skywell Automobile (Chinese company) establishing a value chain for electric vehicles in Pakistan.
