Pakistan’s Mango Exports Exceeds the 2020 Target despite the Pandemic

Pakistan has exported 125,000 tons of mango, more than the 2020 export target of 80,000 in Covid-19 pandemic bringing foreign exchange $72 million to the country.

Revealing that the country exported 45,000 tons above the goal set, All Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters, Importers and Merchants Association (PFVA) Patron-in-Chief Waheed Ahmed anticipated that an additional 25,000 tons of mango will be exported before the end of the season within the next one and a half months.

In 2019 the country was exporting 130,000 tons of mangoes. Waheed said mango production declined 35 per cent during the current season, taking the amount to 1.3 million tons compared to the 1.8 million tons last year.

Waheed Ahmad said that this season has been the most difficult one regarding exports due challenges led by COVID-19 pandemic. “Owing to the pandemic and subsequent global lockdowns, exporters switched to sea and land routes for shipments after airlines suspended flight operations,” he added.
