June Inflation Rate Increases to 8.59% YoY

Consumer price index (CPI) inflation across the country increased by 8.6 per cent year-on-year (YoY) in June 2020 compared to 8.2 per cent in May and 8 per cent in June 2019.

As per the CPI inflation-related data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS), it increased by 0.8% in June 2020 compared to an increase of 0.3% in May and an increase of 0.5% in June 2019.

CPI urban inflation rose by 7.6% in June 2020 compared to 7.3 per cent in May and 8.1% in June 2019. However, t increased by 0.7% in June 2020 compared to an increase of 0.3% in May and an increase of 0.3% in June 2019 on a monthly basis.

The rural CPI rose by 10% on the YoY basis in June 2020 compared to an increase of 9.7% in May and 7.9% in June 2019. It increased by one per cent in June 2020 compared to an increase of 0.3 per cent in May and an increase of 0.7 per cent in June 2019 on a monthly basis.

The YoY-based Sensitive Price Index (SPI) increased by 11.5% in June 2020 compared to an increase of 11 per cent in May and an increase of 9.3% in June 2019. It increased by 1.4% in June 2020 compared to an increase of 2.2% month earlier and an increase of 0.9% in June 2019 on a monthly basis.

The YoY-based Wholesale Price Index (WPI) rose by 0.9% in June 2020 compared to an increase of 1.5% a month earlier and an increase of 14% in June 2019. The WPI inflation rate on the month-on-month basis decreased by 0.3% in June 2020 compared to a decrease of 2.1% a month earlier and a rise of 0.2% in June 2019.
