The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications will soon send a report to the Cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC), offering incentives to smartphone manufacturers in Pakistan.
The consensus was reached during a high-level meeting chaired by Shoaib Ahmad Siddiqui, Federal Secretary for IT & Telecom which was attended by different stakeholders.
Speaking to this scribe Siddiqui said the agreement has been reached and the report will be submitted to the ECC after the approval of Syed Amin Ul Haque, Federal Minister of Information Technology and Telecommunication.
Responding to a query the Secretary said the Ministry would recommend big rebates on smartphone exports as well as a cut in manufacturing and assembly taxes.
He further said encouraging this sector would contribute to GDP, reducing import bills, in addition to creating new job opportunities and fostering industrialization in the country. He further claimed that the incentives for the development of smartphones are in line with the dream of Digital Pakistan by the Prime Minister.
