Power Sector Reforms Have Been Affecting the Country’s Economy: PM

Recently, while directing a meeting on power sector reforms, the Prime Minister Imran Khan said that it has been affecting the economic growth of the country.

The meeting discussed issues relating to the power sector, the planned market reform and restructuring plan, as well as the question of circular debt and IPP negotiations.

The prime minister said the power sector affected the country’s economic growth and the immediate process of overhaul and change was necessary to reduce the current burden on consumers.

The prime minister motivated the early implementation of the already accepted reform roadmap. He also urged the power minister to notify the public about the major milestones reached in IPP negotiations and their future benefits to customers including domestic and business customers.

He noted the progress in mutually negotiated modifications to the IPP contracts stating that cost rationalization would help to reduce the circular debt.
