Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Plant Contributes 10 Billion Units to the National Grid

The engineering marvel 969 MW-Neelum Jhelum Hydropower Plant achieved another milestone last night, as its contribution to the national grid crossed the generation mark of 10 trillion units, yielding revenue of over Rs 120 billion.

Neelum Jhelum Power Plant not only met the design generation but also surpassed the annual rating generation, with efficient operation. It is important to note that Neelum Jhelum Power Plant produced 4843 million units of hydel electricity during fiscal year 2019-20 against the 4660 million units’ goal despite Covid-19 hiccups.

The plant, which has four generating units of 242.25 MW each, began generating electricity with the commissioning of its first unit in April 2018, achieving its full installed generation of 969 MW on 14 August 2018 with the commissioning of all four units.

It must be noted here that on April 9, 2019, Neelum Jhelum produced up to 1040 MW beyond the installed capacity of 969 MW, which reflects the efficiency of its electro-mechanical devices. Nowadays the project has been operational on the full load i.e. 969 MW as the required quantity of water is available due to the high-flow season.
