KP Govt to Take Action Against Illegal Petrol Pumps

The provincial government of Khyber Pukhtunkhwa (KP) has decided to take legal action against more than 2500 illegal petrol pumps in the region.

According to a Home Department document, 1153 petrol pumps in the province are selling fuel without the availability of a No Objection Certificate (NOC). Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government spokesman, Kamran Bangash, told the media that action against illegal pumps will begin next week.

About a week ago, the federal government announced a countrywide crackdown against illegal petrol stations. The federal government has instructed the authorities to carry out operations against illegal petrol stations across the country with the help of local police and magistrates. An FIR will also be registered against the owners of such petrol stations.

As per the media reports, the operation is set to be launched in the border districts of Sindh, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Balochistan. After that, the authorities will continue the crackdown in other areas.

It bears mentioning that Prime Minister Imran Khan has already hinted at revoking the licenses of the oil companies involved in the petroleum crisis and said that strict action would be taken against the individuals, institutions, and companies involved in the fake shortage.
